Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary The Department of Surgery at Washington University in St Louis is seeking an experienced research technician for the laboratory of its newly created Endocrine Neoplasia Research Group (ENRG).
The ENRG has recently relocated to St.
Louis, MO, from Baltimore, MD, and consists of two MD physician-scientists, two research assistants, biostatisticians, surgical residents, and a recently graduated PhD student.
The laboratory is currently located in 1700 square feet of newly renovated laboratory space in the heart of the WashU medical campus.
This position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials.
Specific projects currently underway include studies of the genomics and clonal diversity in parathyroid tumors, and the molecular pharmacology of calcium sensing and related G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs).
Our ENRG takes a “bedside to bench” approach leveraging access to human endocrine tumor samples, genomic sequencing technologies, state-of-the-art high throughput signaling assays, and transgenic mouse models to study genes of interest in the mouse parathyroid.
The ENRG is the newest addition to the research programs of the WashU Department of Surgery, currently the second-highest NIH funded Department of Surgery in the US with over $24M in annual NIH expenditures.
Over its 20 year history, the ENRG has been well-funded by NIH (3 R01s, 1 R21, 2 K awards, a T32), and both society and industry support.
The laboratory currently is supported by both the NIH (CA228399) and a generous institutional relocation package.
Administrative support for protocol and grant management and editorial support (e.
g.
, IRB and IACUC) are provided through the Department of Surgery.
Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years.
Grade R06-H Salary Range $16.
59 - $25.
92 / Hourly The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
