Position Summary
Provides comprehensive patient care, consultation, and education to Rheumatology and Immunology patients and families in the outpatient clinic using a primary nursing framework.
Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities Ongoing responsibility for education of patients and families regarding all aspects of the disease process.
Actively participate in coordination of multi-disciplinary support for patients and their families (including medical-social services, psychology services, supportive care, home care, hospice care, etc.
).
Coordinates patient care, orders diagnostic test, labs, conveys finding to physician, coordinates patient appointments and assists with referrals.
Manage outside calls regarding patient care and triage to include calls from families, outside physicians, clinics, out-patient labs, and home care organizations.
Maintain medical records with appropriate and timely documentation of patient information.
Assist with Pre-Certifications from carriers as necessary for procedures, drugs, hospital admissions, or any aspect of treatment.
Assures for patient compliance with study protocols and adherence to treatment regimes.
Assists data managers with specimen collections and recording of appropriate data as required.
Acts as liaison and team leader by facilitating communication and coordination of care between patients, families and health team members.
Demonstrates cost-effective work habits by setting priorities and managing supplies (pharmaceutical and clinical) and equipment.
Compliance with environmental and safety regulations, infection control and quality assurance.
Actively participate in developing inservice education for co-workers, staff, and inpatient nurses when appropriate.
Maintains current CPR.
Initiate discharge instructions, update medication profiles, review treatment plans and protocol Ensure scheduling of diagnostic tests, procedures, and precertification of treatment is completed.
Participate in research clinical trials.
Provide patient and family education with regard to protocol therapy, medication side effects and disease processes, as well as provide emotional and financial support.
Assist with joint injections.
Medication injections (IM/Sub Q) and providing instruction to patients and families for home injections.
Allergy skin testing.
Attending and participating in weekly team meetings and education sessions.
Job Location/Working Conditions SLCH, CSCC West, CSCC South, NWT.
Moderate to high stress level in a fast-paced, busy area with multiple and simultaneous tasks to perform.
Frequent contact with patients, staff, physicians, and administrative personnel.
Possible exposure to infectious diseases.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in pediatric nursing.
Ability to work under pressure.
Handles emergency situations calmly and demonstrates professional clinical skills appropriate to the situation.
Good organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Required Qualifications Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Two years of nursing experience.
REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION Current RN licensure in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, in accordance with the Compact Act.
Basic Life Support Certification, Level C, or obtains certification within one month of employment (Online Basic Life Support certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the Basic Life Support requirements).
Grade S26 Salary Range $59,600.
00 - $103,600.
00 / Annually The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
