Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Arts and Humanities Coordinator and in accordance with the Christian principles of the YMCA, the Arts and Humanities Specialty Camp Assistant will provide instruction to children focusing on arts & crafts, music, dance, art, science, as well as other specialty camp classes.
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
The Specialty Camp Assistant at the Edwardsville YMCA intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintain a professional, respectful, positive attitude towards employees, members, and participants in YMCA programs.
Exemplify the core mission values of the YMCA while performing all duties.
Complete required YMCA training according to the Edwardsville YMCA employee policy.
Use positive discipline and guidance techniques.
Supervise or assist in supervising a group of children.
Assist with Arts and Humanities Specialty Camp activities focusing on arts, crafts, theater, etc.
Give complete focus to the children, free of distractions such as cell phones and personal issues.
Update the Arts and Humanities Coordinator on any significant developments regarding the child or parent of a child in the program.
Assists in supervising the children, classroom, and all activities, including preparing and returning camp materials.
Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous experience working with children, preferably in a group setting
Excellent classroom management skills.
Display superior relationship-building skills and communicate effectively with a diverse group of employees, volunteers, children, and parents.
First Aid and CPR certifications
Favorable criminal background check
Complete required YMCA training according to Edwardsville YMCA employee policy.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Sufficient mobility to plan, lead and participate in activities, and perform additional position duties.
Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to respond swiftly in an emergency situation.
Work will be performed indoors and outdoors and may require occasional travel.
Must be able to coordinate a variety of large and small tasks simultaneously and handle tension and stress in a positive manner
