The Camp Ranger is accountable for providing general maintenance for Council properties and facilities for use by Council membership.
The Camp Ranger works closely with volunteers and Council staff to ensure troop, day and resident campers have a successful camping experience.
The Camp Ranger assists in securing camp properties and facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and
Provides 24-hour emergency coverage if scheduled to do so.
Responds to property-related emergencies and critical issues in a timely manner.
Notifies Senior Ranger and/or Director of Camping Services and Facilities immediately when issues arise
Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on all major structures and equipment
Ensures all facilities and equipment (i.
e.
, related to water supply, plumbing, heating, refrigeration, cooking, electrical equipment, lighting, machinery and vehicles) function properly
Prepares facilities for group or troop usage by making sure facilities meet sanitation, safety and program standards
Maintains and secures tools, shop equipment, motorized vehicles and other equipment
Maintains grounds (i.
e.
, mowing grass, controlling weeds, maintaining roadways, bridges and trails, removing dead trees from living areas, etc.
) equipment and facilities in accordance with federal, state and local regulations, GSUSA and ACA guidelines and as directed by supervisor
Prepares, maintains and operates swimming pools
Operates Council trucks, tractors and other maintenance equipment
Prepares routine building and grounds inspections
Prepares work-progress reports and other reports as directed
Orders supplies and/or services in compliance with Council purchasing procedures
Acts as Council representative at camp and communicates to supervisor important events and visitor input
Efficiently manages personal work schedule and job priorities for best possible productivity within established personnel policies
Works as team member and supports Council in other areas as needed
Supports organizational diversity and fund development goals of the Council
Maintains Core Competencies’ standards
Consistently demonstrates a climate of courtesy, respect and professionalism to parents, staff, volunteers, members and the general public
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, masonry, maintenance and repair of motorized vehicles, heating/air conditioning and pool systems
Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
Class E license or ability to attain one
Be insurable by Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri automobile insurance policy
Good human relations skill
Ability to remain unbiased and diplomatic with volunteers and staff members
Belief in the mission of Girl Scouting
Demonstrated skill in the trades needed for general maintenance and servicing of buildings, grounds and equipment
Strong human relations skills and ability to build good volunteer relationships
Ability to work independently, under limited direction, exercising judgment and initiative in making decisions within Council operations, policies and procedures
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
If your position requires that you drive an average of one (1) day per week or more, you must possess a valid state driver’s license and a driving record that is acceptable to our insurance carrier.
Red Cross Adult/Child CPR/AED certification
Red Cross First Aid certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent:
is frequently required to talk and hear, stand and walk, sit and use hands to manipulate and feel
is required to reach with hands and arms
is frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
