The *Camp Counselor *will assist in the operation of the June/ July summer camp unit and its programs to reflect the goals of the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois.
The Camp Counselor must be able to work cooperatively with the Unit Leader; be able to observe and supervise camper behavior; identify and respond to hazards; assist with planning and conducting program activities; assist campers in emergencies (fire, intruder, severe weather, evacuation, illness, or injury); teach and promote respect for others; value and understand differences and similarities of campers and staff; and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
*ACCOUNTABILITIES* · Work with the Unit Leader and/or administrative staff to formulate and implement activities and experiences in the unit through girl planning, the session theme, and the Girl Scout program emphases.
· Participate in training with the Program Engagement staff regarding activities that will be included in the camp session.
· Know the girls in the unit and help them to respect the rights of others.
· Supervise campers and ensure their physical and emotional health and safety at all times.
· Assist in maintaining unit sanitation, housekeeping, and care of supplies and equipment.
· Assist with the storing and packing of equipment for safety during and at the end of the session.
· Keep the Unit Leader informed of day-to-day unit successes and concerns, as well as camper health and other unit issues.
· Maintain a good rapport with parents, campers, and other staff.
· Assist with camper check-in and check-out procedures.
· Meet with Program Engagement Manager - Outdoors, as necessary.
*QUALIFICATIONS* · Be at least 18 years of age · Previous experience working with younger girls, preferably in a camp or outdoor setting · Willingness to reside at camp, in a cabin with other staff or campers, during the camp sessions · Physical signed by a medical professional within the past 12 months · Good character, integrity, adaptability, patience, sense of humor, and enthusiasm.
· Ability to accept guidance and supervision · Ability to become First Aid and CPR certified · Willingness to complete Illinois Mandated Reporter training · Willingness to complete Youth Mental Health First Aid training · Ability to work with campers and staff members of diverse backgrounds · Understanding and acceptance of the Girl Scout Promise, Law, beliefs, and principles.
· Willingness to become a member of Girl Scouts of the USA and consent to a criminal background check *PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS* · Must be willing to perform tasks that involve the ability to exert light physical effort, which may include some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling objects and materials of moderate weight (20-25 pounds) · Daily exposure to seasonal weather conditions Job Type: Temporary Pay: $455.
