*General Purpose*
Assists the Eureka Parks and Recreation Department with the planning and organization of community recreation programs, including youth athletics, day camps and other programs.
Assists other City Staff with ensuring that Parks and Recreation Department tasks are completed.
*Supervision Received* Works under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor of Programs and Athletics as well as general supervision of the other Recreation Supervisors, Director of Parks and Recreation and other City supervisory staff, as directed.
*Duties, Responsibilities, and Expectations* * Coordinates various parks and recreation activities and athletic programs and acts as an on-site supervisor.
This would include but is not limited to youth programs, special events and day camp.
* Assists with youth and adult sports leagues, tournaments, and programs.
Including registration, team development, coach correspondence, supply ordering, scheduling and other duties.
* Assists with umpire and referee recruitment, training and scheduling.
* Manages inventory of athletic and program equipment, ensuring that the amount of equipment is sufficient for program needs and that equipment is in good working condition.
* Assists with facility scheduling for the Eureka Soccer Park, Eureka Ballfields and The Timbers of Eureka Gymnasium.
* Oversees the Eureka Summer Camp Program, including developing and implementing camp structure and operations.
* Assists with the recruitment and training of part-time counselors.
Coordinates summer camp staff schedule.
Organizes and leads camp staff meetings.
* Assists Lead Camp Counselors and Assistant Camp Director in the planning, coordinating and supervising of daily activities such as arts and crafts, games, sports, etc.
* Maintains camp budget, statistics, attendance records, evaluations, parent correspondence and reports as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor.
* Organize weekly summer camp field trips.
* Enforces all regulations pertaining to the health and safety of visitors, parents and campers.
Responsible for organization of camper emergency contact forms, medications, and other camp documents.
* Provides cleaning and basic maintenance to the equipment and in all areas of the facility.
Completes laundry as necessary.
* Assists in preparing for publication, a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, social media posts and related communication regarding Parks and Recreation Department programs.
* Enters program registrations and facility reservations and conducts inquiries utilizing CivicRec, a web-based interface.
* Serves as the Supervisor on Duty, which includes supervising staff, interacting with the public, cleaning, etc.
during assigned shifts at The Timbers of Eureka.
* Greets the public and answers questions, responds to inquiries from employees, customers and others and refers, when necessary, to appropriate staff.
Exhibits enthusiasm for the department and for the job.
* Maintains strict confidence in all matters, works well with fellow staff members and treats all individuals with dignity and respect.
* Provides great customer service by being friendly, tactful, courteous and by maintaining an alert and professional posture at all times.
Maintains an acceptable appearance at all times as to both dress and personal hygiene.
* Maintains a current knowledge of all of The Timbers membership, program/event and rental information.
Provide current and accurate information regarding Parks and Recreation programs, classes and special events.
Registers program participants, processes memberships and handles facility rental requests.
Constantly updates oneself on new information and changes occurring throughout the facility.
Utilizes recreation software to register participants for programs and facility rentals.
* Operates the telephone using proper etiquette at all times.
* Knowledgeable of emergency procedures.
Takes charge in any emergency situation in a calm and professional manner.
* Completes any necessary paperwork such as accident/incident reports and inventory.
* Prevents accidents and allows for the enjoyment of all patrons through the fair and consistent enforcement of policies and rules governing the conduct of individuals using The Timbers.
* Cooperatively works with other staff to ensure a professional and enjoyable work environment.
* Arrives to work on time and when scheduled.
* Performs other duties as requested or required.
*Desired Minimum Qualifications* * Graduation from a four (4) year college or university with a degree in Parks and Recreation, Sports Management or closely related field, or two (2) years of experience performing comparable duties in an event production/marketing related position or field.
A combination of relevant education and experience will also be given consideration.
* Experience in customer service preferred.
* Ability to supervise other part time staff members.
* Ability to work a variety of shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.
* General knowledge of all sport offerings (Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Pickleball, Basketball, Volleyball and Kickball).
* Knowledge of and the ability to count money and make accurate changes.
* Ability to understand, carry out and give oral and written instructions and follow posted schedules.
* Ability to work with minimal daily supervision.
* Ability to learn and follow City policies.
* Knowledge of fitness equipment and general knowledge of exercise.
* Ability to perform child and adult CPR and first aid.
* Valid driver’s license.
