Summer Camp with UCP Heartland helps our clients thrive in their community and you can help continue our mission by providing high-quality care for Camp participants and engage them in age appropriate and meaningful activities.
Our clients look forward to this camp each and every summer and we are looking for outgoing, engaging, energetic individuals who have some knowledge and experience working with children/teens with developmental disabilities.
AS A CAMP COUNSELOR, WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Engage Campers in activities that focus social interaction, building meaningful relationships and increased self-sufficiency.
Provide active supervision that promotes the Health and Safety of Campers.
Ensure personal care needs of Campers are met while in the program, (e.
g.
, personal hygiene, feeding, etc.
).
Assist in maintaining the facility in a safe and sanitary condition by adhering to schedules and methods of routine housekeeping in coordination with other staff.
Be available for the entire camp dates plus scheduled training.
Maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
Perform direct supports for persons with disabilities, including but not limited to, lifting, transferring, bathing, dressing and feeding individuals who often exceed 100 lbs.

Obtain required Agency trainings/certifications include, but not limited to CPR, First Aid, positive behavioral supports, emergency preparedness, and incident reporting.
Obtain a Missouri Class E driver’s license and complete Agency driver training if applicable.
Maintain accurate daily notes that reflect the Campers’ daily progress towards their goals.
Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Other duties as assigned.
What are the minimum requirements for this Seasonal Position?
Complete all required Agency training prior to the start of Camp.
Knowledge and experience involving children/teens with severe/multiple developmental disabilities (at least one year experience).
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
Effective written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to relate to a diverse group of individuals, both internal and external to the Agency.
Working knowledge of computer systems and software, preferably Microsoft products such as Outlook, Word and Excel.
We would REALLY love it if you had some of these:
Previous volunteer or work experience working with children/teens with developmental disabilities.
College courses related to special education, recreation, psychology, rehabilitation, social work.
Two years of experience working with adults and/or children/teens with developmental disabilities, one of which is in residential/respite programs.
Knowledge of and experience with adaptive equipment and assistive technology applications for adults and children/teens.
