I am currently selling Bee hives, Supers, and the Optional Hive Components that go along with them.
All boxes and hives are assembled using a Dovetail joint.
Langstroth Style Standard 10 frame Hives(8 frame available by request).
I have been raising Bees for close to 40 years.
In the past I have purchased my wooden wares from the large bee suppliers, Then due to the quality of the mass produced boxes I started buying from smaller, local producers.
Lately I started to make my own boxes and hives for even tighter quality control.
I started to make the boxes shown here.
I felt that going to a Dovetail joint would be a benefit since it is, among other things, self-squaring (to a point) .
The other benefits over the traditional finger joint are that it is a Mechanical joint.
In other words if there were no glue or nails to hold it together it could only come apart in 1 direction.
A typical finger joint can separate in either direction.
Also as the wood expands from the ambient humidity The joint will only get tighter.
The last benefit the Dovetail Joint has over the finger joint is that there is less end grain exposed.
The end grain of the wood is what sucks water up like a straw.
The less exposed end grain the better.
In my opinion these
boxes are far superior to the older style.
Deep Honey Super / Brood box.
9 5/8 in.
Deep.
The box is completely assembled and painted.
It has 1 coat of Zinsser brand primer and 2 coats of White Valspar exterior latex paint on it .
All joints are Glued and Nailed.
Included are 10 frames with wax coated plastic foundations.
The foundations are made of a rigid plastic coated generously with beeswax.
Due to the unavailability of the wooden frames and foundations I am currently only able to get Acorn brand 1 piece frames and foundations.
These have excellent reviews and I feel they will be just fine.
If that is unacceptable to the buyer I am willing to sell the hive components and the buyer is free to find frames and foundations that suit them.
The foundations are made of a rigid plastic coated generously with beeswax.

1 complete hive includes 1 screened bottom board, 1 deep brood box, 10 frames/foundations, 1 inner cover and 1 aluminum clad telescoping cover, 1 metal mouse guard/entrance reducer.
The inner cover also has a built in feeder hole that allows you to feed the new swarm from inside the hive by placing a super over the inner cover.
You simply add a small mouth mason jar to the hole in the center of the inner cover and replace the lid.
This greatly reduces robbing of the weaker hive.
Everything is glued and nailed.
I have been using 2 coats of Valspar exterior paint on all of the external components.
