*POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT* ASSOCIATE COUNTY COUNSELOR OFFICE OF THE COUNTY COUNSELOR *Starting Salary / Salary Range: $103,197.
89 – $162,433.
75 per year* *This is a full-time position which includes a full range of benefits including Paid Time Off, Extended Medical Leave, Holidays, Employee Health, Dental, Life, Disability, Retirement, and Tuition Assistance programs.
* *JOB DESCRIPTION: *The purpose of this position is to assist in providing legal advice and opinions to County officials and employees; draft legal documents related to County matters, and represent the County in litigation.
The work is performed under the supervision of the County Counselor.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: *The following duties are normal for this position.
These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.
Other duties may be required and assigned.
· Gathers information, conducts legal research and prepares variety of documents for legal opinions, legal actions and related areas on behalf of the County.
· Prepares motions, pleadings, memoranda, briefs, discovery documents, etc.
· Prepares defense of claims and complaints by or against the County, recommends action and takes such action as is necessary.
Prepares and takes cases to trial, including in county, state, federal and administrative tribunals · Conducts discovery, examination of witnesses and cross-examinations, gathers documents and exercises discretion as to what will be used as exhibits and compiles related case information.
Files pre-trial and post-trial motions, and litigates appeals.
· Represents County departments in mediations and settlement negotiations.
*REQUIREMENTS:* ·Education -Juris Doctorate from a recognized law school.
-Missouri License to practice law in good standing.
·Job Experience -5+ years of experience.
-Four years law practice with litigation experience and municipal law practice.
·Knowledge, Skills and Abilities -Maintains knowledge of current local, state and federal laws regarding County functions; Federal, State and County court procedures; County rules, regulations and organization.
*PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:* · Judgment and Situational Reasoning Ability -Ability to apply functional reasoning in synthesizing information and functions, and ability to influence others in activities such as leading, controlling, managing, and supervising.
-Ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the direction, control and planning of an entire program or multiple programs.
·Physical Requirements -Ability to operate equipment and machinery requiring simple but continuous adjustments such as; computer, telephone, copiers/scanners, audio visual equipment.
-Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing movements requiring skill and training, such as data entry.
-Ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing and stooping.
Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration.
· Environmental Adaptability -Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as repetitive computer keyboard and telephone use, irate individuals, intimidation, and dust may cause discomfort and poses little risk of injury.
