Energizer is seeking an experienced and motivated Counsel, Labor, Employment and Benefits to join the Legal Department, reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Global Product Supply, Operations and Human Resources.
This is a strong growth opportunity for a dynamic lawyer looking to join a fast-paced team and have an impact across multiple areas of responsibility.
Responsibilities This role will support enterprise-wide labor, employment, and benefits matters.
This position is expected to be a key business partner and to contribute to the success of the Company by combining both legal and business expertise to understand Energizer’s operations and strategic goals and deliver solutions to help the organization achieve those goals.
This attorney will be expected to work effectively across internal legal and non-legal functions.
This role requires a mature individual who can fight fires as needed and provide practical legal advice that supports business objectives.
While much of this attorney’s time will be spent on labor, employment, and benefit matters, this role will also be expected to assist in other areas, including contract drafting and advising.
Specific responsibilities include: Provide day-to-day counseling on all labor and employment legal issues during the lifecycle of employment, from recruitment to performance management to termination, for all functions on a global basis Provide counseling and legal support to the Total Rewards team and Benefits Committee on global benefits issues, including health and welfare, retirement, perquisites, and severance Develop policies and training programs to meet employment law requirements and business needs Participate in collective bargaining and assist with adjusting grievances and administering collective bargaining agreements Stay updated on global laws and advise on their impact to the business Minimize legal exposure consistent with Company objectives upon voluntary or involuntary terminations and retirements Partner with HR to promote the Company’s ESG and DEIB goals Assist with HR and compliance investigations, as needed Interest and ability to assist in other legal subject areas, including drafting contracts and advising the business on contractual terms and conditions Work closely with other members of the legal department on cross functional initiatives Motivated and able to prioritize among many tasks of competing importance Able to work independently and collaboratively Customer-focused, able to present complex legal matters simply Strong attention to detail and commitment to responsiveness Willingness to assist in other areas as needed, even if outside your comfort zone Interest in expanding skillset/area of responsibility What we are looking for Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an accredited institution Member in good standing of at least one state bar 4-6 years of relevant experience at a large law firm or as in-house counsel in a similar capacity Ability to work as an impactful business partner in a dynamic environment by giving reasoned balanced legal advice that is understandable to the business Strong analytical, writing and communication/presentation skills Strong leadership skills Strong customer service focus Ability to collaborate with others in a matrix management structure Ability to build positive relationships with senior management and other members of the legal team and to positively influence outcomes Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and direction Ability to resolve ambiguities and provide legal guidance in uncertain situations Ability to evaluate and mitigate risk Global mindset and the ability to work virtually with business partners across the globe Willingness to take on new projects even if they are outside the scope of day-to-day responsibilities Experience advising international markets Experience drafting contracts and advising on contract terms and conditions Come join us!
